What Dreams May Come

Last night, I had my first weird pregnancy dream. I dreamt I had a baby that wasn't quite right. She had 6 fingers on one hand, and 10 or 12 on the other. The nails were really long and curvy, and the 10 or 12 were staggered in two rows, like two layers of fingers. When the baby was only a few days old, we went to a pool party at my parents' house (who haven't had a pool since I was in high school), and she was rolling over and pulling herself around on the ground. I mentioned her fingers and unbelievable mobility to my mom, who hadn't noticed, and she acted like it was all completely normal.

So that was the dream. I'm sure there were more specifics, but it's 2:30 in the afternoon and I don't remember them now.

I woke up with the feeling that I was carrying a malformed baby inside me and the thought, "Do I really want this thing to come out?" As if there's anywhere else for it to go. All of that quickly faded once I realized it was just a dream, and that at the ultrasound, this baby (which may or may not be a girl) had 10 fingers - total - and 10 toes.

I also had a dream that Lily had somehow gotten out of her crib in the night, and in the morning, I found her in the office playing with her toys. I walked down the hall and heard noise coming from in there, and found her with two different hats on her head - one a nets cap turned backwards, homegirl style. She looked up at me when I walked in with an expression that said, "Where've you been? I've been waiting for you." We never were able to figure out how she got out of the crib, but were very thankful she decided not to go down the stairs - why shut the gate when she's in her crib?
